22nd round prospects performances… Top 3/ Flop 3
By: Evilo | February 2nd, 2009
Here’s a round up of the U22 performances in this weekend of Ligue 1 action.
Rennes 0-0 Toulouse
Lemoine (5) was weak again in his passing, but did well on the pressing.
For Toulouse Capoue (6) and Sissoko (5) did well in the physical impact category, as expected. This ws a physical game and both guys did well.
PSG 2-0 Caen
Sakho (8) was arguably the man of the match. He was completely dominant. Toudic came in late and had the best opportunity for Caen, well saved by Landreau.
Le Mans 0-2 Nantes
Bouhours (5) has another tough game I thought, same for Louvion (4) who couldn’t deal with Nantes’ attacks. Gervinho (3) was disastrous.
For Nantes, William Vainqueur (7) finally had his first start and he was impressive. He’ll see more time if he continues. Djordjevic (5) tried a lot without success.
Le Havre 2-3 Nancy
Nestor (4) had a tough first half but did very well in the second with autority.
For Nancy, Dia’s (7) speed was dangerous and he hit the post.
Valenciennes 1-0 Nice
Ospina (5) made some great saves and I have no idea why he’s rated this low. RĂ©my (4) on the other hand showed nothing.
Monaco 1-0 Grenoble
Pino (5) was dangerous thanks to his insane dribbling. Mollo (6) had his best outing thus far and gave a great pass to Licata for the lone goal. Encouraging.
For Grenoble, Feghouli (5) got back to his usual self after his good game against Lyon. Disapointing. Paillot (4) had his worst game so far, partly responsible for the goal
Auxerre 0-0 Lorient
Riou once again didn’t start. Though Sorin did a good job, I have no idea why Riou is on the bench since he played well thus far this season. Narry (5) did a good job in the middle, winning many challenges.
For Lorient, Obertan (5) and Gameiro (6) were the most dangerous players for their side and probably deserve better than they got.
Lyon 1-1 St Etienne
Benzema (6) spent the night alone after that stupid Piquionne either missed everything he touched or didn’t find anything better to do than get sent off.
For Les Verts, Mirallas (6) scored a nice goal. Benalouane (7) was once again impressive on defense and Payet (5) earned an assist. Not much of a gam from him though. Worthy to note that Rivière came in late.
Bordeaux 2-2 Lille
No U22 started (though Hazard came in late), but what a game !
Sochaux 1-0 Marseille
Erding (7) scored another key goal after fighting hard against Mandanda for the ball. Another lesson for the kids here : never give up on a play.
Top 3
1- Sakho : DOMINANT.
2- Vainqueur : I liked his first start. I really did.
3- Benalouane : could have been Dia, but Benalouane played a tougher opponent in Benzema.
Flop 3 :
1- Gervinho : he’s becoming a fixture of this Flop 3.
2- Bouhours/Louvion : when you can’t deal with Nantes’ “powerful” attack, you have no place in L1.
3- Rémy : he should do better with the talent he has against teams like VA.
