20th round prospects performances… Top 3/ Flop 3
By: Evilo | January 12th, 2009
Here’s a round up of the U22 performances in this weekend of Ligue 1 action.
L’Equipe mark between ().
Lyon 1-1 Lorient
Benzema (6) was key on the first goal and should have scored on another play where he somehow managed to send the ball over the bar after a nice pass by Keita.
Obertan (4) was shy in the first half but made a few nice plays in the second half. Apparently, that’s not enough for L’Equipe, but for a first game with his team, I thought he was good. Gameiro (6) was still a poison to defend.
Auxerre 0-2 Marseille
Riou (6) can’t be faulted on both goals. Ben Arfa came on too late.
Monaco 1-2 Nantes
Nkoulou (4) suffered against Bagayoko and Gakpé (5) was not overwhelming either.
Rennes 1-0 Grenoble
Lemoine (6) was solid as usual. Paillot (6) was good again and almost scored the tying goal on a corner once again (he hit the bar).
Le Havre 0-1 Toulouse
Capoue (5) and Sissoko (3) were much weaker than I thought they’d be. Disappointing.
Sochaux 1-0 St Etienne
Erding (5) was only visible when he missed the easiest of goal late in the game. For Sochaux, Matuidi (6) was his usual solid self, while Mirallas (4) didn’t do anything in his 45 minutes of play. Benalouane (6) and Andreu (5) were the best defensemen on their team and arguably the best players period (with Janot).
Top 3 :
1- Paillot : I like his poise.
2- Benlouane : Defensive leader right now.
3- Gameiro : always dangerous.
Flop 3 :
1- Erding : missing sitters is not what a poacher needs to do.
2- Mirallas : should have done better.
3- Capoue/Sissoko : Le Havre’s midfield is really not something to be afraid of. And yet they could not dominate it.
